Vanity Fair takes "Green Issue" Literally

by Summer Rayne Oakes · 04/06/06

Saw a woman today on the subway enthusiastically reading the “Green Issue” of Vanity Fair today. It hit newstands on April 5th, but couldn’t find one anywhere. I think all this green -speak going across this great big blogosphere got all of the socially-conscious readers to swipe it off the shelves.

Beautiful cover shot by Annie Leibovitz, but did they have to make it sooooo…..green? I mean, literally…the whole cover is green. We all know there is more color to this movement then green…

Regardless of the 10% recycled paper SNAFU, this is the start of an “increased commitment to reporting on the threat to our precious environment,” says editor Graydon Carter. Sounds great. Let’s see it happen.

Thats a great start. I’d love to see more magazines and companies using more recycled paper in their print products. The print industry needs to keep going with more environmentally friendly inks and practices. As a designer, I witness so much waste during a single print run (even on smaller scale jobs).
