Buying 4 million kilowatts hours of wind as energy credits from Renewable Choice, architectural firm HOK now stands as the largest architectural firm to commit to wind power. This amazing purchase was the firm’s gift to the planet for Earth Day.
Now, I would say that the action of planting 100 trees as a corporate gesture would be sweet, but HOK blows that away. This purchase of credits is equivalent to the planting of 768 acres of trees. This acquisition, as referenced by HOK, will prevent more than 5.6 million pounds of carbon dioxide pollution in the next year.
Since HOK is a leader in the architectural realm, I truly hope that this incredible act inspires and encourages other firms alike and in different industries.

Is this for one of the projects they’re working on, or is it just to offset the companies’ own carbon use? What I’d like to see is competition among big companies for who offsets the most carbon….Here’s a fun marketing idea all you PR people- make a little sticker or emblem that has a percentage on it…20%, 50%, etc. and then have the company put that on everything they own. Like Eco Chick could have on displayed on it’s main page somewhere…

They are doing this justo to offest the company’s use. Truly great. There are other companies such as Interface Inc. (Carpet & Textile Manufacture) who have these great ways of giving back to the environment and making that a big part of the company’s over all mission.
Great idea about the seal of energy efficiency!!
