A Royal Statement Indeed

prince-charles.jpg

Prince Charles is elegantly using his power to make a powerful statement. The NYT reported that the Prince had made the choice to travel like his ordinary country men. No more excessive fuel devourers, aka private jets and helicopters. Instead he will be utilizes the energy conservation method of public transportation such as commercial flights, trains, and biodiesel cars.

The Prince emphasized that the carbon footprint that we make today directly impacts the future generations. Now the royal style sense will not be thrown away. In fact, the prince is taking his existing Jaguar and Land Rover converted so that they run on 100% biodiesel. He will be upgrading his current residential electrical system so that it is more energy efficient. Even his charitable corporation, Duchy Originals is getting a eco-revamp. The food company will soon be measuring the emission levels of its greenhouse gases.

Wouldn’t it be great if our country’s leader would take such initiatives and create a statement, a commitment to his country and the environment? That would definitely make the papers. His eco-friendly ranch would make for a great cover on Architectural Digest.

That’s great! It’s always good news to learn about anyone taking steps to save the environment, but it’s especially good to hear about someone as public as Prince Charles doing it. Hopefully people will take notice and do something themselves.

Wow. Price Charles just moved up a notch in my book.

The current president wouldn’t do such a thing, but we can hope the next will.

Ok, it sounds nice, but the reality is far different. The Prince and the royal family have been under a lot of public pressure to curb their spending. In the past 6 months with elections looming and cabinet changes here in Great Britain, it was a public dirt flig…. and Charles has gotten caught in Public spending scrutiny. This is mostly spin, Charles has been close to the envirnonment all his life and is a great outdoorsman, as much as a hunter and officer in the miltary. Big deal…
As for the statements in regards to his cars, they are 2 of the most poluting cars in this country and by the way, you need to make no modification to your diesel vehicle to use bio diesel. Bio diesel means that it is made from organic materials, crops rather than oil. By the way, if you wanted to run a diesel car on the vegetable oil you use for your fries, it works, just filter and pour it down the tank…
You gotta take this Charles thing with a handful of salt…

Yeah, he’s a royal, and uses up more than his share of resources, BUT this isn’t the first time I’ve heard about his dedication to environmental stuff (doesn’t he have a big organic farm or something?) And what other leader (even if titular) of a major country shows any environmental consciousness? Hopefully his very attractive sons will continue to be vigilant about this stuff and promote it…right now Britain is def. ahead of the curve in all things green.
