G8 Centering on Global Warming Contributes to….Global Warming

by Starre Vartan · 06/06/07

And, not surprisingly, the United States is the worst offender. See why below.

Also, great video and commentary on the G8 protesters via: Environmental Graffiti

A problogger and oft-quoted green living expert who has been featured in the NYTimes, Elle, Glamour and Whole Living, she is a contributor to The Huffington Post, Inhabitat, and Hearst's The Daily Green, and is currently editor-at-large for Coco Eco Magazine. An active ecofashionista, she has style edited for Plenty magazine and coordinated runway shows. She splits her time between Connecticut and NYC and calls Sydney, Australia her second home, even though it was her first (as that's where she was born and most of her family resides). When not writing, blogging, or researching her next book, she is trailrunning, trying to cook, or snowboarding.

…and that’s just for the delegations. A friend of mine is near the sight (not protesting, just living) and she says dozens police helicopters have been hovering non-stop for the last two days and boats are creating a border in the sea north of the meeting. I’d love to see how the numbers from those high-pollution machines stack up, too.

I have been and lived in other countries and I have seen the way others live.. I have to say that a lot more people walk and use their bikes in Europe and Asia… and the size of their cars are much smaller if they do use automobiles. I think we Americans as general depend on our cars way too much.. and I see so many mammoth sized SUV’s… this seems to be a symbol of prosperity in this consumer based society. I can not understand how people who see the news everyday and see how it’s effecting our environment continue to drive and purchase them.. advertisers need to stop putting ads where they glamourize everything including these gas guzzlers.
