We procured a local turkey through the Nebraska Food Co-op, and I am going as local as possible for everything else - pies, bread, sweet potatoes, carrots...unfortunately I didn't save any potatoes and we will have some non-local items thanks to the contributions of our guests, but it's a start. And fortunately there are few enough of us that we can use our regular (nice) dishes and cutlery, cloth napkins and placemats. Happy Thanksgiving!

I love your article. For many years I raised my own turkey and about twenty others that I shared with friends. I also raised everything else we fixed for Thanksgiving or friends would share some venison and such. It was always a fun way to do it. I also am a big belliever in using cloth napkins and table linens. Disposables are going to ruin our world. Keep on writing, and thanks.

Well, I definitely have to stick up for the Tofurkey!! I love the kind that comes in a box; it's really good!! and I've had excellent homemade versions as well. Or you can skip the 'meat' (whether real or tofu-based) altogether and have a Thanksgiving dinner of sides....there will be plenty to eat, I assure you, as I've done a 'sides only' meal more than a few times.

But the rest of the points are well-taken! For my 100-mile challenge, vegetarian Thanksgiving menu, see my post from last year:
