Isn’t it wonderful how many of life’s random necessities now come in green versions? The list of recycled products seems to get bigger by the day.
Take for example, Radley’s Recycled Umbrella.
Yes, this pretty polka-dot umbrella is more than just arm candy. It’s eco-innovation at it’s best. Made from recycled plastic bottles, the fabric is also 100% recyclable. Read: if it breaks, tears or loses its luster you can just throw it in the recycle bin. It will soon be reincarnated to another glorious product . . . perhaps a tote bag, a food containers or maybe even a bicycle.
But fear not for this “brelli’s” lifespan. The brainchild of much-loved English luxury company Radley, the Eco-Brella is sure to stand up to even the harshest of hailstorms. Clearly, the English know their stuff when it comes to staying dry— they did invent “Wellies” and the Barber Jacket, you know!

What a cute umbrella! I love that’s it’s so eco-friendly!
April 19th, 2008 at 10:31 amThere is also now a cool umbrella by “brelli” that is supposed to be made of eco materials that will biodegrade over time :) … it doesn’t have polka dots but it is afforadble and very beautiful ! (You can see through the top and the rest is made of bamboo).
April 19th, 2008 at 12:23 pmyes I’ve heard about this Umbrella. I will write about it soon. Thanks for the tip.
April 19th, 2008 at 1:27 pmOooooh!! this reminds me of the project by ecofashionista Jill Danyelle for the Treehugger design contest a couple years back. She made the MOST beautiful dress out of discarded umbrellas- very Ghesquiere- or was it Balenciaga- influenced as I remember. When I walk around in Manhattan you see so many umbrellas in the trash, it’s such a waste and the fabric is usually fine- it’s the flimsy frames that break. What a good invention, and cute too!
April 19th, 2008 at 8:07 pmIts great, a nice looking eco friendly umbrella - but can it withstand high winds? That’s always my question about umbrellas, mine always end up turning inside out in the wind…
April 20th, 2008 at 7:20 amThe umbrella comes with a tiny instruction card (printed on recycled paper of course). It says something like, “to avoid damage, keep umbrella into the wind.”
I think that’s the trick. Most umbrellas can’t withstand a harsh gust, but turn it into the wind and you’ll have a much better chance.
April 20th, 2008 at 2:24 pmLOVE these! I was looking for a new umbrella too. Thx Olivia!
