Beautorium: (Really) Natural & Organic Beauty Products

by Stephanie Rogers · 07/21/08

As more women are becoming aware of the toxicity of conventional beauty products and making the switch to more natural options, ‘green’ products are becoming easier to find. Not many online eco beauty stores actually bother to do the homework for you, though – which is all the more reason why Beautorium.com rocks.

At Beautorium, you won’t find questionable brands that claim to be natural or organic but can’t back it up. They’ve hand-chosen the brands they offer to make sure you get the highest quality without worry of greenwashing. Better yet, the cute little icons on each product page break it down for you: brand buzz, certified, effective ingredients, good works and no animal testing are just a few. It’s all explained on the site’s “Good to Know” page.

Shop for your hair care, skin care, cosmetics, fragrance, aromatherapy and more from brands like Juice Beauty, Dr. Haushka, Pangea Organics, Farfalla and Martina Gebhart. They’re also the exclusive U.S. vendor of luxurious European eco-brand Saaf. A pretty sweet green bonus is the offer of a natural Beautorium burlap tote on all orders over $75, which would make a great addition to your stock of reusable shopping bags (I’ve got two, and I love them!). Your order will arrive in a pretty recycled box.

FOR ECO CHICK READERS ONLY! Get an exclusive discount of 20% off any Beautorium order. Just type in the code ‘eco-chick2008’ at checkout. The offer is good until Monday, August 3rd. It’s a great opportunity to try out some lovely new eco beauty products, as if you needed an excuse!

I was wondering if you knew of any other all natural, environmentally friendly haircare websites. I was also wondering what your personal favorites are and if you know of any places to find user reviews, comments, and opinions. Thanks!

Hi Lauren! I usually buy my haircare products at local shops, so I don’t have much experience with online natural haircare stores. My current favorites are LUSH ‘Seanik’ solid shampoo and Nature’s Gate Henna shine enhancing conditioner. I’ve also tried and loved John Masters Organics, which you can get at Beautorium.

I have yet to find a really good, well trafficked site focusing on natural/organic products where users can write reviews. I do occasionally check drugstore.com, which has a decent selection of natural products and lots of user reviews.

Makeupalley.com has tons of user reviews, fyi You need to join the site but if you google a product name and write makeupalley after the name, reviews usually come up – amazon is also a good source. You can just type in the product at amazon and see what pops up.

I really appreciate this article. Beautorium.com is great. It is truly a crime that skincare products are not properly regulated by the FDA. It is hard work to do the research. People don’t have the time to do it. Perhaps you already know about this incredible website, http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com. Skin Deep is the world’s largest and most popular skin product safety guide. The Environmental Working Group runs Skin Deep and has conducted research on 953 sunscreens 31,142 products, (makeup, creams, baby shampoo, etc. ) with 7,579 ingredients overall.

This may seem like a shameless plug, but it really isn’t about the “sales” for me. Though the store is on my site, the sales are through the affiliate store. I truly want women to have only the safest products, my sisters, mother, friends. My mission is to help prevent cancer and other possible problems stemming from exposure to toxins. So, I have made the top EWG rated products available at the Ecoluscious Store on my site. http://www.heatherferris.net

    Best,
    Heather

I wasn’t familiar with this online store until now. So thanks Eco-Chick for bringing it to my attention. I contacted them asking if they also cater to the needs of professional make up artists.
