Nice post. People need to be reminded of the basics. My wife and I just bought a L.E.V. (Low Emission Vehicle) Honda to replace an older car. Love it and it gets 37 M.P.G.

I dont think you should call nature a woman. i think giving nature a personification is part of the reason nature was turned into a caricature and then justified in being turned into a commodity. It brings it to the level of human... when it is so much more than that. I think if the earths personification were to be acceptable, a feminine personification would be my choice, though. PS: I'm a man.

I sold my car and got a bike :) ...I was afraid to do it for a while cause i live in the mountains and thought I would never make it up a hill, but it is so easy to bike around! it's changed my life.

I wish there were better public transportation options where I live so that I wouldn't need a car! I definitely agree that combing trips and walking whenever possible are good guidelines. It's almost like the soaring cost of gas is forcing people to be more green!

Public transport and human-power are great options, even outside of major cities. My father has lived in Norfolk, VA, Athens, GA, Washington, DC, and (for most of his life) the DC suburbs, and he has never had a drivers license. Instead, he takes buses and trains and travels on foot.

We also have made some big changes. First we got rid of one car. Now that I work from home, I don't need my car. Second my husband car pools 4 days a week, that allows him drive over 100 miles less in a week.

We do not have public transportation here so that is out for us.

One other thing we do is walk a lot more.

Great Idea, I'm down to using my car only 2 days during the week. Plus we dragged out and overhauled the bikes. Hubby rides his bike 6 miles to the gym every morning, now. Soon he can just ride there - turn around and come home! Happy the weather here in VA is cooperating with us.
