Boho Magazine: Ecofashionistas Rejoice!

by Starre Vartan · 08/13/08

Boho Mag cover

I’m excited: Boho Magazine, which I’ve been hearing about for a couple of months now, is an ecofashionista’s dream!

With tons of coverage of style from casual (a visual story on t-shirts) to dressy (see below), and including short features on adorable vegan confectionaires, and practical ‘how to’ advice, Boho is a lovely way to spend some time curled up on the couch, or perusing while riding your favorite form of public transportation.

I’m super-impressed with this first issue- the design is fun, modern and welcoming, and I recognized tons of the designers listed in the credits (faves you’ve seen here like Emily Katz and Bahar Shahpar) , so it’s obvious that the editors at Boho know their stuff!

I honestly can’t wait to see the next issue. Cheers Boho!

Maybe next spread, they can use LEDs instead… great paper, great printing… courageous layout. Now that they got this far, what they need is great editorial photography.

Sustainable fashion designers have yet to make a really serious effort to produce extraordinary images to grace the pages of the rising crop of green fashion magazines… It leaves the scene to be wanting.

I suggest fashion, beauty and photography editors, start combing the web for the amazing pool of young independent talent, models, photographers and make-up artists now swimming the web on peer to peer networks like Model Mayhem or MySpace.

Modeling agencies for the most part still have their foot stuck in the past, can’t get up to speed with the change of pace, philosophy and lifestyle. Sadly, it reflects in the work they create for fashion magazines. Boho should make an attempt to break away from that.

I’m really psyched about this magazine. From the looks of it, the content is great and definitely worth subscribing for. It’s been a long wait to get fashion magazines that are dedicated to earth-friendliness.

I think it’s great that there’s a green fashion magazine, but here’s a word of caution: don’t subscribe to Boho unless you are SURE that this is the magazine for you. I subscribed when I heard about it and decided that it’s too frou frou hippy for me. It has been a nightmare trying to get the remainder of my money back for the year. Customer service at Boho didn’t return my emails, and I can’t find a number to call!

We’re loving it! The bar has been raised and I look forward to seeing who is up for the challenge. Keep it coming, Boho!
