Eco-Beauty Review: Saaf Organic Complexion Boosting Serum

by Stephanie Rogers · 09/25/08

I started using Saaf Organic Complexion Boosting Serum about two months ago, during the hot late summer months when my skin is normally an oil slick no matter what I do.  In the past I’ve tried all kinds of different products to battle the summer breakouts, from astringents to oil-controlling powders and creams.  Nothing has really worked, but after about a month of using this serum every night, I was surprised to realize that not only was my skin softer and more even, my pores appeared smaller and I hadn’t been walking around with a shiny face every day.

I admit, it’s a bit strange to slather my face in oil every night before going to bed when I’ve always fought against oily skin.  But somehow, this stuff works.  When I wake up, my skin is silky and blemish-free.  Though the directions advise using it twice a day, I skip it in the morning – but I’ve noticed great results nonetheless.

Information about the Organic Complexion Boosting Serum from the Saaf website:

Improves skin-tone & texture for normal/oily skin. Purifying and sebum-regulating botanicals (lemongrass and juniper berry) encourage the disappearance of blemishes, help to balance oily skin, clear breakouts, and improve skin tone and texture. Saaf’s Organic Complexion Boosting Serum is highly absorbent, with purifying, clarifying, cold pressed ingredients. Used regularly, these sebum-regulating ingredients encourage the disappearance of blemishes. And as a beautiful bonus, anti inflammatory Black Seed Oil also helps skin resist the ageing process, natural Vitamin E promotes soft and supple skin, Jojoba imparts a soft velvety quality to the skin and cold pressed Rosehip Seed Oil helps to reduce pigmentation by promoting healthy skin renewal. Expect the skin to present noticeable improvement in both texture and appearance.

Saaf is a European brand created by Dr. Mah Hussain-Gambles, and for a long time it was hard to find in the U.S.  Luckily, online natural & organic beauty shop Beautorium.com is now the exclusive source for Saaf in the States.  Saaf uses natural, organic raw materials that are vegetarian and free of alcohol, GMOs, fragrance, color and synthetic additives.  Saaf products are never tested on animals, and they come in glass bottles with recyclable outer cartons.

I recently fell in love with face and body oils, myself. They really stick with you and keep you from “drying out” midday. An added bonus, they smell so yummy! and that sticks with too. It’s like moisturizer and scent in one. For more on oils for the face and body, check out this post http://www.organicbeautysource......html#oils .

I also love Saaf’s Complexion Boosting serum! I had the great pleasure of speaking with Dr. Mah (Saaf creator/founder) a few months back and she is quite lovely and passionate about pure products). It works beautifully and smells fantastic (love, love, love lemongrass…) :) I too only use at night. Great also for healing red, bumpy upper arm syndrome that plagues many women :) Thanks for sharing your experience with it and glad to read you like it too!

I would love to try this but it just way too expensive for me right now. Is there maybe a knock off version that is just as good and cheaper? :)

I actually use a small amount of organic cold-pressed olive oil at night on my skin and it works wonders. You can buy a small bottle for around $10 and it lasts forever.

Just a few drops that I rub between my hands to warm it up and them gently press my hands on my clean skin. I have seen a drastic improvement in my skin since I started doing this.

Stephanie, I also had the oily breakouts for years! As time went on and I started using anti-aging products, I was always encouraged to use moisturizers by specialists- especially at night. It was surprising to me how this reduced the oiliness and breakouts! But things like astringents dry out skin, and your dermas overcompensates with extra oil production. So by feeding your skin with moisturizers, you’re keeping it balanced, and it won’t react with an oil production attack!

For me, instead of rosehip seed oil straight, I use the Rosehip and Hibiscus Face Serum (from the Made from Earth skincare line only) because it is light-bodied and disappears like water on my aged skin.

The results were almost immediately soothing and smoothing. Plus, it has imparted a more even rosy tone which de-accentuates the patches of redness and even the appearance of the fine blood vessels near the skin surface around nose and cheeks. I use the Made from Earth Rosehip & Hibiscus Face Serum even around my eyes when I sleep at night, and I have noticed a major difference. I am so happy with this!
