I always like to do wacky costumes (last year I was a 70′s Connecticut housewife from The Ice Storm), but people have a heck of a time figuring out what I am! I LOVE the rental idea….will be looking into that for this year. Why I never considered that before is beyond me.

Renting costumes is also green. You aren’t using up resources in creating the costume and after the holiday you return it to the store for someone else to rent and reuse. Good if you’re short on time or the talent it takes to make a costume.

Great tips, Stephanie. Halloween used to be a more community-oriented experience, with less focus on crap candy and chintzy vinyl costumes that get tossed in the trash. It is much more fun to get creative and let the freak flag fly.
