I home brew exquisite German Beers, saving all around the board environmentally. I also have made home-made root-beer and ginger beer, both delightful and eco-friendly! The recipes are free on the net, as are the methods! The home made beverages can be tailored to personal tastes and although labor intensive, well worth the effort. Happy Brewing!

Nicole -- That is what I do. I filter my water with a Brita and then pour into the bottles to be carbonated. The great thing about it is the water is cold from the Brita being in the fridge so when you run out of seltzer at dinner or during the day and want it -- hen you make the seltzer it is nice and cold.

Thanks Kate! That is exactly what I bought today, the 8 cup size pitcher is perfect for my fridge and I love that Brita is now recycling the filters.

Nicole, how about a pitcher filtration system like Brita or Pur? One of those would easily fit in your fridge, and you could just pour the filtered water into a bottle for fizzifying. Heck, I wonder whether one could add bubbles straight into the Brita/Pur filter.

I love seltzer and this machine sounds so exciting! Is it okay to use chlorinated tap water? I live in an apartment with no filters and can't install due to my strict landlord!

I ALSO have a Soda Club machine and I LOVE it!! I've been meaning to post about it for awhile, but have been so busy- so glad that others are into it. My good friend who's not a 'greenie' at all got one just to save her family money. As far as the taste of the water, mine tastes like a fizzy version of my house water- which is yummy as I have a whole-house filter that makes all the water in my home drinkable and non-chlorinated. A worthwhile investment to be sure (especially as I've never gotten over my childhood habit of drinking water while in the shower).

We have GOT to get more people to recycle. Remember the commercial back in the 70’s with the Native American Indian crying over the mess people make? That was a strong message. Here is a less depressing, kind of cool way to get the recycling message to people. Check it out: http://www.awarenessideas.com/awareness-animation-a/405.htm

I love the taste. You can control the amount of fizz. It takes some trial and error but I would say you can give up your Pellegrino habit!
