GR! I posted as Woody Resin last time, but I guess that didn’t warrant a response. I’m writing a book. The History of Surfing – New York – pre-1969 “the end of the long board era”.
You need/want to be in it. It’s important that we hash over (the days). With all the -wanna bees- trying to take credit for what surfing in NY is, it needs to be told correctly. You/we were here.
They officially legalized surfing in “05″ in Rockaway.

Your Dad and I were friends in those days but lost contact. I would love to connect again. Tell him hello and pass along my email. Walter says hello too. Most of us still surf. I do most of it in San Diego right now. Costa Rica and Nicaragua when I can.

Great ! Learned more about the art of surfing in this super write-up than from all the occasional clips and mags on the subject. Especially glad to hear another voice rant against competitive sports with their echoes of gladiatorial ego trips and adrenaline crazed crowds.
From what I read here, surfing affords solitude, aloneness, a oneness with nature while keeping your wits sharp and I only wish I did’nt have to wait for the next lifetime before taking it up. Perhaps the writer can introduce me to it next trip round !
