M. Patmos NYFW F/W 2013: Aristocratic Nomad

Marcia Patmos’ Fall 2013 collection for M.Patmos is inspired by the aristocratic nomad; a well-traveled woman who collects and carefully curates her wardrobe with pieces from around the world.

Ladylike silhouettes provide a sleek contrast to the menswear theme played out in the collection. The juxtaposition reflects the bourgeois, eccentric lady of the house who borrows pieces from her husband’s closet. Masculine details are seen in fisherman ribs, waffle knits and bold plaids, combined with luxe fabrications such as merino shearling, Nappa leather and rich silks resulting in a collection grounded in dark hues like deep wine, peacock and charcoal with shots of metallic and neon.

Focusing on two iconic patterns, ikat and camouflage, Marcia reinterpreted these classics through techniques like jacquard, digital printing to delicate hand beading using a variety of materials, including cashmere and stretch viscose. While the M.PATMOS collection is known for knits, outerwear makes a bold statement this season with updated trench, bomber and cocoon silhouettes. “Tromp l’oeil” details are dramatized in silk shells with sheer v-insets and capelet sweaters for a touch of the unexpected.

There is something very special about an item touched by a human hand. Working with artisan communities can help to support multiple families-and even whole villages.
