Sylvia Heisel Fall/Winter 2013 Collection is Literally Brilliant in the Face of Darkness

Fashion designer Sylvia Heisel‘s eponymous line is inspired by and rooted in the realized potentials of materials, from the responsible (organic cottons and recycled fleece made from plastic bottles) to the practical (reflectives) to the unusual (Tyvek, a recyclable, washable plastic that’s often used in construction applications).

Her made-in-NYC F/W 2013 collection keeps pushing the boundaries of the materials she chooses. “The reflective pieces glow when you take a picture with flash or shine a bright light on them, otherwise they’re a flat silver. The fabric is made from microscopic glass beads and is great for nighttime style and safety,” wrote Sylvia. “The LED tutu is made of Tyvek embedded with tiny white LED lights. There are 3 settings: on, pulse, and fade.” Seems like this would be ideal for bike-riding on busy streets in the evening or at night; incredibly chic, and practical too.
