First Rock’n Roll & Now Green

There seems to be a new angle to the term “British Invasion”. While although the UK is still giving us amazing music such as Coldplay  and  Aqualung (Who just so happens to be playing at the Bowery Ballroom on May 1st), The Brits are just cranking out amazing green product lines and on-line eco-stores. The latest…. Well, let me introduce you to By Nature. While they have been around for a little while, these eco-lifestyle guru’s concerns about the startling statistics for the UK’s landfills have been manifested into what appears to be a unique and modern eco-friendly home accessories collection.
The most interesting is a photo album made of 80% elephant dung and 20% recycled paper. Now you may have a startled look on your face but actually elephant dung has been used by several environmentalists. Take for instance The Rosamond Gifford Zoo located in Syracuse, New York. They will be the first in the nation to be powered by its own animal waste.

If you still can’t get pass the elephant dung, how about these really awesome decorative pillows made from recycled seat belts or modern lamp shade called the “Spiro” lampshade made from 100% recycled cardboard. This company even has 100% recycled wine glasses. You could throw your own little swank green party at home with your new Vino Wine glasses and sustainable Sushi board while wearing an “Eco Woman” Tee made with organic cotton and azo-free dyes.

Walmart Going Ga-Ga with Organics

by Summer Rayne Oakes · 03/24/06

Pretty soon we’ll see a major push from Walmart going organic. Public relations stint or not, this is BIG news given that they have power across borders.

“They have huge potential because it’s not just Walmart we’re talking about, it’s their entire supply chain,” states Jeff Erikson, U.S. director of SustainAbilty Consulting.

What does this mean? That Wal-Mart, as a corporation, can push more on cleaning up the manufacturing side of the table.

What organic products are they offering? Well, the new Dallas Supercenter opened with 400 organic products, ranging from food to baby clothes to home decor. They will be doubling their organic products in the next month and be looking for new items ranging from food to apparel to paper and electronics. This means mountains for supply chains…

Graphic for Good

I want to be Nicole Linton because not only did she travel to Peru, found some cool tapestry and then trekked alone through the Andes to find the artist who made it, but then started e bella, a company that sells completely gorgeous textiles (rugs, blankets, pillows) that are made by artisans in Peru who are provided a sustainable living by their work. These are not your hippie Peruvian blankets, either.

Ebella

They are soft in texture and graphic enough for any modern home. So Nicole gets to travel, have a really sweet apartment decorated with this stuff, and help local Peruvians in a war-torn region. Excellent.
