Hot Latin Calendar Draws Attention to Climate Change, Extinction, Conservation

Puerto Rican Alessandra Rampolla embodies global warming as the January image for the Ecological Footprint calendar.
As reported by Treehugger, the Ecological Footprint calendar is a collaboration between the Azara Foundation and fashion photog Gaby Herbstein to raise awareness of global environmental issues. Super-creative and totally gorgeous shots, all! Very 2010.

Carla Peterson is a famous Argentinian actress and here stylishly (or garishly? Either way it’s a fun image) represents water pollution.
Human Ingredients T-Shirt: Fascinating and Disturbing
This thought-provoking tee isn’t organic, but it is available on American Apparel stock shirts, so at least you can choose a fair-trade option. I think this is totally genius, and includes all the heavy metals that have worked their way into the bodies of every human being on the planet- like it or not. These heavy metals are known disease-causers and are pumped into the air and water by coal- and oil-burning power plants, garbage incineration, plastic-production plants and others- and are distributed planet-wide.
Eco Fashion Basics: An Ode to the Perfect Little Black Dress

Wearing my Carol Young LBD at the Mini Exhibit at the Go Green Expo in LA.
It is only this year, my 32nd, that I have truly understood the value of the Little Black Dress. Of course I have heard the legend; what woman hasn’t? This mythical raiment could be worn anywhere, tarted out or demurely cover up, achieve figure flattery whether one was surviving on a diet of tropical fruit and raw macadamia nuts or daily chocolate bars and creamy pastas nightly. A frock that would work equally well with flats or heels, could be thrown in a bag and would never wrinkle, and be made of fabric that would dry quickly after a drenching but keep you from perspiring in the blasted sun (and could even hide said dampness when it inevitably made its moist mark). And of course it had to be impossibly chic.

Frankly I had more faith that unicorns still existed in some ruddy-mudded and tangled corner of Eastern Europe.

This jacket is perfectly now, reflecting the strong shoulder trend that has been everywhere since Balenciaga reinvigorated it over a year ago (now Gucci, Margiela, and hordes of others have joined in). Bllack’s version is totally wearable and the longer hemline and single button are classics.
Bllack by Noir’s Spring/Summer 2010 Collection embodies one of the oft-ignored sides of the natural world: nature’s dark half. Frozen winters, bared teeth and claws, an onrushing tidal wave, a slow descent to madness.

I think these shorts, with a flattering vertical zippered pocket, might just be totally perfect.
Perusing the Danish designer’s collection, which is composed of mostly black fabrics and leathers calls to mind a lion stalking at midnight, the flash of a gazelle’s eyes before it is attacked. This is nature too, and though we may be loath to acknowledge the darker sides, they exist in balance to the light and are just as important to a functioning ecosystem (or designer’s oevre).

If you’re only going to nod slightly to the Mad Max-Urban Warrior trend, this is it. A double-zip leather vest with a hood is versatile enough to go with jeans and stilettos when you want a bit of mean, and could be paired with an uber-floaty floral dress for a study in contrasts.
Meet Rachel Avalon, Project Green Search’s New “It” Girl

Rachel Avalon is our new green “It” girl! Rachel won the inaugural Project Green Search model competition (read more about the contest here) and she is as excited as a green girl could be. She says about winning:
I recognize that there are countless, amazing people out there who are making a real difference through simple steps, policy changes, career paths, the media, products, and volunteerism. I am just honored to be a part of the process and to have this kind of platform to inspire more people.
Rachel is a green living, detoxification and holistic nutrition expert and her unflagging energy and enthusiasm throughout the PGS competition proved that (it was a long and tough 2 days, during which the finalists guerilla gardened, shot reams of photos, modelled in a runway show, and more). With her new position, she hopes to influence even more people to go green:
I really hope to make the most of 2010. So often you hear people in the green movement joking about preaching to the choir. My hope is to dramatically expand that choir and get everyone singing!
