Wearing those knees thin in your favorite jeans?
They are our favorite jeans for a reason. They may make our butt look good (a definite pre-requisite for buying them in the first place); they elongate our legs (good for petite women); they just…fit (thank god for a little lycra); or, they’ve been with you since college, bringing home the 4.0s (okay, not touching that one)…
…Recently my very pricey Loomstate jeans managed to get a big fat hole around the knee area. Doesn’t look so bad since the majority of the jean is distressed, but when a hole manages to find itself in a hinged area of your body, it’s just plain annoying. The answer? Don’t throw those pair of jeans away, take them to the doctors at Denim Therapy. Founded by Francine Rabinovich and Karla Schuftan, the two women saw ample opportunity for business in New York City, a city over-populated with $100+ jeans. Anyone would pay to maintain with fractional prices ranging from $21 – $30 and with turnaround time being about 2 weeks. The secret? Jeans are prepped for a fusable fabric that will be embroidered back into the jeans. Voila! Brand new.
If you aren’t in the NYC area, simply ship using fedex (or another trackable method) to

KTK Handmade
I have been a bag-lady for a long time. Often disappointed with the offerings at most retailers, I tend to look for more original pieces than the ususal fare. On a women’s camping trip I attended five years ago I met Kerrigan Kessler, a talented designer who was carrying a gorgeous bohemian bag that I instantly coveted. Once she told me she produced these wearable creations, I began to frequent her website where you can mix and match numerous swatches and straps to design your own completely unique piece. The bags are handmade using vintage fabrics, including some organic cotton canvases. Kerrigan is also a kundalini teacher and her spiritual practice permeates her work. Her bags are colorful and inspired. KTKHandmade

The Crafts Council Gallery will be hosting a show that will house the U.K.’s small, albeit blossoming eco-fashion industry.
Well Fashioned examines the various ways in which fashion designers approach ‘green’ fashion, from materials and processes to concepts and techniques. Some outfits use organic or alternative fabrics like hemp, bamboo, wild silk and ingeo. Other exhibitors consider the ecological value of synthetic fabrics and biodegradable and recycled plastics.
Curator Rebecca Earley comments: ‘We hope that the exhibition will sow the seeds of change for a more ecological and ethical approach to fashion. Given that the majority of a garment’s impact on the environment occurs after the item has left the shop, an important part of the exhibition looks at the role of the consumer. How can a garment be bought, washed and disposed of as ecologically and ethically as possible?’
Some notables that will be there: Terra Plana, Kate Goldsworthy, and Ting.
