White Out: This Summer the It Color is One Light Hue!
The biggest trend this summer? White on white on more white! (The thrill of being able to button on my white jeans again!) We love it everywhere. Its never been a better time to exercise less is more. With just a pop of color, like the blue heel of a sky high wedge (below, a vegan version), an outfit goes from perfectly lovely to ultra chic.
No matter where you are this summer, be it a pool party, BBQ, or girls night out, save the black for winter. This season its all about the light and simple. From the cute sparkly jacket (below by socially-conscious Edun), to the slacks, and especially the dangly earrings (made from recycled metals and ethical stones), white is everywhere.

How I Wear Eco Fashion: LA Eco Diva Taryn Hipwell
Taryn Hipwell puts the ‘multi’ back into multimedia! With a background in hair and makeup modelling and fashion design, and a passion for green living it makes sense that she’s the founder of Eco Divas TV, where she and her team work to green the fashion, film and cosmetics industries through video and online projects, while looking fabulous all the way, of course.
On my path to becoming a designer, I had a great distaste for all the toxic chemicals in fashion industry (as well as the hair and makeup products), that I created Eco Fashion designs waaaay before it became trendy. Now I educate about Eco Fashion at FIDM and Environmental Charter High School because it is my goal to get at least 5 aspiring designers to shift their course and create a sustainable company from the start.
Don’t get me wrong, I love to repurpose and create my own designs, but I’d rather speak and teach other designers more sustainable options…and possibly create content to reach and teach a mass audience.
Taryn calls hereself a “nomadic chameleon” who likes to change her look on the regular, so she understands the need for great makeup that works, amazing hair and eye-catching outfits. Above, she’s rocking:
Clothes:
-Mink Vegan Shoes
-Deborah Lindquist shirt/dress
- T.Hipwell Vintage scarf top (yep she made it!)
-Sun Behr flower and heart accessory
Makeup:
-Mascara by Tarte Cosmetics
-Lips by Primitive
-Eye shadow by Jane Iredale
-Foundation by Mineral Fusion
Hair:
-Mineral Fusion and Giovanni Wicked Wax styling products
-Blonde color by Shades Salon, Beverly Hills
Summer Rayne Oakes Opens Up: Business, the LBD, and Her Passion for Bugs
I happened upon one of the “How I Wear Eco Fashion” posts here on Eco Chick mid-March to find a woman named Summer Rayne Oakes. With her deep-rooted passion and awesome sense of sustainable fashion, I knew I needed to ask her just how she does it all, and never seems to have a hair out of place. I couldn’t make it to her place to browse her odd collection (more on that later), but I did have the loveliest of chances for an email interview.
Eco Chick: I’m a junior in school and I find what you do completely inspiring. What would you tell aspiring environmentalists, journalists and eco-fashion lovers?
Summer Rayne Oakes: The coolest jobs are those that haven’t been created yet. Go out and invent your life.

How I Wear Eco Fashion: Fashion Ecopreneur Greta Eagan

Greta thinks her ensemble above is “The perfect weekend outfit”.
Recently Greta Eagan, who is an eco fashion expert (more on that below), had an event to attend, and in putting her outfit together, realized that every part of it was sustainable, down to her nail polish! (That happens once you’ve been into eco fashion for a bit – a great look comes together and you realize it’s all green.) She deemed the above not only comfortable, but it made her feel confident, even though it’s not crazy dressy. “The art of casual dressing, really is just that… an art! It is a delicate balance between designed pieces and comfortable fabrics,” Greta says.
She filled us in on how it all came together: “While attending the Wing Tip It launch party in the Meatpacking last week, I found a tee in Vince that is made of 50% modal (beech wood pulp, a sustainable fiber). I love the cut and knew it would go perfectly with my Stewart + Brown organic cotton cargo pants. Finally, I slipped on my favorite Allison Wedges from Cri de Coeur and viola- an eco-fabulous outfit for the weekend!

Eco Fashion Designer Titania Inglis: Future Perfect Wearability for Urbanistas
The first time I saw Titania Inglis’ designs was last Summer at an eco fashion party at the Brooklyn Textile Art Center. She had a few pieces on a rack for sale, and I snagged a deep-V backed grey almost-seersucker sleeveless blouse. It was made of the lightest organic cotton and when I wore it to The Greenshows paired with my boyfriend’s jeans, and wooden-soled heels, I felt totally grown up, but comfortably so. I caught Titania’s recent show at the new Guilded showroom and the newest collection was just as exciting as those first few pieces I saw on that rack in Brooklyn.

Naturally I wanted to know more about Titiana – and where she gets her inspiration for her future-perfect designs. Turns out that cotton blouse I so love is made with one of her favorite fabrics – a Japanese Organic Cotton – to design with: “The fabrics have a crisp, clean look that complements the geometric lines of my clothing perfectly, and their quality is unrivaled. I’m looking forward to working with Brooklyn’s Textile Arts Center on the dyeing for my next collection: they’re starting to grow a garden of dye plants, so although the fabric is sourced from abroad, the colors will be hyper-local,” says Titania.
