Amanda Seyfried is a Red Carpet-walkin’ actress. In the last few years she has captivated Hollywood in such beautiful films as Mama Mia and Letters to Juliet, not to mentions playing the defiant eldest daughter on HBO’s show about polygamy-with-a-heart, Big Love. She doesn’t let the intensity of public scrutiny get to her. She’s been seen running about doing errands in these low-key Sanuks for the last few weeks.

Walk in OMBU Shoes and Reforest Our Planet

OMBU 2010

I’d wager that you never thought you could purchase a pair of shoes while helping with the world’s reforestation efforts. But it’s true. We now live in an age where more and more consumers recognize the merits of products made responsibly. OMBU is a fresh, young company intent on providing a product that you can feel proud of, with each and every stride.

OMBU shoes is committed to giving back to the planet and helping their customers do the same. The company provides a tree seed with every purchase of their shoes and also plants a tree on the customer’s behalf for one of the Trees for the Future Foundation Projects. To date, the eco-conscious shoe brand has planted thousands of trees around the globe!

But back to the shoes. The Miami-based company gave a traditional Argentinian shoe called “Alpargatas” a complete makeover. OMBU transformed the ugly duckling into a sexy, irresistible flat. They come in a variety of colors and patterns, and shopping their site is like walking through Dylan’s Candy Bar. The shoes look so delicious and enticing, you’ll want everything you see in your size.

And with prices between $35 and $45, you can indulge in a pair or two, guilt-free. Their sequins pattern are perfect for a night on the town while the polka dots and checkers are a bit more playful for day. If you’re feeling bold, go with their camoflouge pattern. And the classic solid will go with everything, I promise. Whichever OMBU shoes you decide on, rest assured they’ll be delivered right to your door in recycled fabric bags rather than wasteful boxes.

TOMS Wedges: Now Perfect for Autumn Too

If you regularly ready Eco Chick, you know that I’m a huge fan of TOMS shoes, the company famous for the ‘buy a pair and a child in need gets a pair of shoes too’ (they recently dropped their millionth pair!).

Their program is called One for One and it’s a simple idea that makes a tremendous difference for the kids who aren’t able to go to school unless they are wearing shoes. Shoes also protect kids in developing countries from getting soil-transmitted diseases, or cuts or sores on their feet.

The new wedges are available in (my fave) ash, cranberry, and black for $69, and unlike the summer styles, have a fabric-covered wedge instead of an espadrille style, making this version perfect for Autumn and Spring.

TOMS Wedges: Best Green Shoes for Summer, 2010!

TOMS_Wedge_Final
TOMS wedges are available for $69 on their site, for any of the styles offered.

As originally reported by Emma Grady at Treehugger, TOMS, the company that donates a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair that we buy, is now offering these fantastic wedges in their signature style (but taller!).

Besides doing what shoes do (protect the feet from damage and disease), as it says on the TOMS site, “Many times children can’t attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don’t have shoes, they don’t go to school. If they don’t receive an education, they don’t have the opportunity to realize their potential.” See? EVERYthing matters.

Honestly, these shoes are so damn cute and fit with my style so perfectly, I would consider getting them regardless of the good they do. I’m thinking the red and white stripe….

Melissa Shoes “Shop Within a Shop” at Kaight in NYC

Eco Chick Editor Starre Vartan trying on the (adorable) new Vivienne Westwood Lady Dragon Melissas with heart detail (here and below).

Melissa Plastic Dreams Shoes are made from plastic – normally NOT my fave material, but in the case of these fab stompers, I make an exception because: they are long-lasting, waterproof, ridiculously cute, AND the factory where they’re made in Brazil is closed-loop, meaning that NO wastewater or gases from the production process ever makes it into the environment. It’s practically zero-waste.

The company also partners with major designers like architect Zaha Hadid and Vivienne Westwood to create truly memorable designs. I’ve been (very actively) wearing my Vivienne Westwood maryjanes for a year now and they still look new! Also shiny like patent leather, but wears a LOT better.

And now one of my fave stores, Kaight in NYC, is ‘hosting’ a Melissa shop within the store, so you can check out a much larger selection of Melissas (avail online too!) and try them on if you visit the LES. At the opening reception, I tried on a few pairs and am loving the tortiseshell flats with the cute bow on the front, which are perfect for Spring.
