Eco Chick Giveaway: Adrian Grenier’s Nautica T-Shirt for Oceana

Adrian Grenier at the Tribeca Film Festival: Image by David Shankbone
You might be familiar with this hot hunk from Entourage, however Adrian Grenier has a new agenda: saving the ocean. Grenier claims his passion for the environment turns the paparazzi and media off (not us!) but no matter what he is determined to make a difference. He believes his responsibilities on a “human level” are to “give and contribute”. In fact, in 2008 assisted by a team of green experts, Grenier’s Alter Eco TV show premiered on Planet Green. The show is about better, sustainable, and more ecological methods to transform living space using eco-lovable products.
We see celebrities talking about saving the environment, but Grenier takes it one step further and has made it a passion of his to see what he can do to change the environment. He believes it is most important to, “….see first hand what is happening”.

Lara Miller: Eco Fashion’s Quick Change Artist
Eco Fashion designer Lara Miller is an Eco Chick fave; her supermodern, often convertible, sensuously romantic, yet travel-friendly designs are deceptively simple but always on point.
Lara says she didn’t plan her designs for the travelling types (though they suit us so well), but that her ideas come from a playful, fun place that happens to result in highly variable separates (think dresses that can be worn three ways, or trousers that have adjustable hems):
I graduated from a very conceptual design program at the School of the Art Institute where I researched Eadweard Muybridge images and architectual theory by Gregg Lynn. I was fascinated with the idea of animation and gestures in every day life, especially when getting dressed. I wanted to give the wearer a relationship to their pieces and allow them to be more individual. As my line and I have grown up, the functionality has really become key.

Win a Beautiful hessnatur Tee Designed by Miguel Adrover!

This is the beautiful t-shirt in organic cotton that Miguel Adrover of Hessnatur designed for the Grameen Foundation, a $20 value.
Miguel Adrover is well-known in fashion circles for his fantastic and timeless creations, and he is now the designer behind German brand hessnatur. We’re going to be giving one women’s (medium) designer t-shirt away to a random winner (enter to win by commenting below).
hessnatur, the leading global pioneer in organic apparel have joined forces with Dr. Muhammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Foundation and 2006 Nobel Peace Prize recipient, to launch a limited edition tee shirt designed by hessnatur Creative Director, Miguel Adrover.
The tee shirt, which will be priced at $20, will be made by Grameen Knitwear in Bangladesh. With every tee produced, hessnatur guarantees a 40% bonus over fair purchase price and donates 25% from the sale of each shirt to the rural education project of the Grameen Foundation.
The partners, who share a belief that the combination of microcredit and education can be an effective tool in fighting poverty, have merged Dr. Muhammad Yunus’ revolutionary microfinance program with the expertise in organic farming practices of hessnatur to help improve both the living and health conditions of workers in one of the poorest regions in the world.
In Dr. Yunus’ words, “poverty is the absence of all human rights. The frustrations, hostility and anger generated by abject poverty cannot sustain peace in any society. For building stable peace we must find ways to provide opportunities for people to lead decent lives.”
Empowering people to make change is fundamental to both hessnatur and Grameen, and the graphic symbol and statement, “The world in your hand,” was created by Adrover to highlight how the importance of a simple decision, such as purchasing an organic tee shirt, can sanction communities to protect nature and preserve the future of the planet.
Adrover explains “my designs have always been rooted in my observations of the world around me and I believe that fashion must reflect the harmony between humanity and nature. It may not seem that a tee shirt would mean so much to a fashion designer. But, since I believe that the world is in our hands – that we must take responsibility for all that we do – this is more than just another tee.”
Good luck! Contest closes at midnight, EST May 29th. Be sure to comment below to enter to win!
You can also buy the shirt (there’s a men’s version too) on the hessnatur site.

How The Media Abandoned the Environment, at new techie-with-a-heart-of-green EcoTechDaily.
Check Chris Baskind’s op/ed on the lack of environmental coverage in mainstream media:
No, you’re not imagining things.
With U.S. gasoline prices edging toward $4.00 a gallon; oil prices at an all-time high, demand for materials such as copper outstripping demand; worldwide food shortages; major cities running short on water; Antarctic ice sheets crumbling into the Southern Ocean; and continued uncertainty over our climatological future, you’d think the environment would be front-and-center on the evening news. And you’d be wrong.

14 New Species Discovered in Brazil, from The Daily Green
Dan Shapely reports that there are indeed new things under the sun (at least to humans). Check the gorg flipbook!:

If full body Spandex isn’t your speed, check out Cycle Chic, a London-based blog that offers tips on how to look devastatingly hot (wear designer pants from Stella McCartney, or your boyfriend’s t-shirt), stay sweat-free (don’t go too fast and sport a light, summery dress), and “cycle yourself slim,” all while biking to your intended destination.
