Beautiful BKR Glass Water Bottles: Well Designed and Just Right

Comments No Comments

by Starre Vartan · 11/23/11

Finding the right water bottle is a little bit like a Goldilocks and the Three Bears: Some bottles are too big, some are too small, some are made from the wrong materials, or the drink opening is the wrong shape for drinking from while working out, or too small to clean properly.

And then Bkr sent me one of their pretty bottles to try. And it was like I had found bottle nirvana. It was made of glass, which keeps water cool naturally, and won’t leach anything into liquids, hot or cold. Glass is also easy to clean, and Bkr bottles are covered with a translucent silicone sleeve, so even if you drop the bottle, it’s not likely to break (of course it still can, but so can plastic if dropped far enough).

And look how pretty they are!

What comes more easily in this economy than an assortment of empty wine bottles after you’ve just thrown a smashing get-together? With the preference being on sourcing cheap entertaining ideas, most people now see staying at home with a good meal and great wine as a viable alternative to spending money on restaurants and clubs.

Wine Bottle Ideas:

There are a number of ways to reuse wine bottles. Among the more common ideas are reusing them as water pitchers, votive vases, torches, and flower bed liners. However, there are dozens of other smart options that are rarely explored.

Rewined Recycled Glassware – Get uniquely hued wine bottle glassware made from orphaned bottles left behind at local restaurants and bars.

Water Feeders – On a very hot day or when you’re away, fill the bottles of water and stick them into the pot or soil near your plant. The water will slowly percolate from the bottle and into the soil.

Wine Bottle Chandeliers – In addition to the popular row lighting and pendant lighting, Pottery Barn put together an interesting chandelier with wine bottles strung around it. Even though four dozen other people will likely have the same statement piece, at least you know it’s a unique sustainable element in your home. Plus it catches the light beautifully during the day and especially at sunset.

by Melissa Goldberg · 06/04/09

I just love the products at Greensender.com and recently they just open The Bottle Shop where you can custom-design and personalize a premium SIGG reusable water bottle. Using a high-tech laser-engraving process, Greensender engraves a name and art selections on to the bottle — yielding a beautiful and vibrant personalized mark.

The bottles make a great Father’s Day gift. I just bought them as teacher gifts. Shh..don’t tell them! They are great for any gift occasion and the entire family — at the beach, camp, gym, pool, and more. Always know which bottle is yours. Want to get them for an entire team or company? The Bottle Shop will work with your own art to make the perfect bottle for you!

Best of all, because you know me –  Melissa Goldberg, if your order before August 1st, you can get a free tee shirt. Just put “Friend of Melissa Goldberg” in the comments section at checkout and note size and men’s or women’s shirt and a tee will be added to your order free. Isn’t nice knowing me?

Need another reason to ditch the disposable plastic water bottle? How about fourteen reasons?

SIGG (you know the hardwearing yet elegant water bottle Co.), Elle Magazine and Laurie David’s Stop Global Warming have joined forces to up the anti-plastic rationale. The iconic dream team has commissioned fourteen leading names in fashion (yes, were talking Zac Posen, Diane Von Furstenberg and Stella McCartney) to create one-of-a-kind limited edition designer water bottles. Here’s a sampling. Click here to preview all fourteen.

Diane, how girly and flirtatious. I like it!

Very cool Anna.

Come on Tommy . . . just a signature? That’s weak.

Hmmmmm . . . there’s something funny about the idea of “designer water bottles” . . . then again, disposable plastic water bottles have long been a must-have accessory for the stylish and parched. Hopefully, these leading designers will convince fashion followers, world wide, to forgo the Evian and get hip with a SIGG.

In addition to launching a major fashion trend, SIGG and Elle will be auctioning the inimitable bottles to raise money for StopGlobalWarming.org. The bidding starts at 7pm tonight!

To learn more about the SIGG Auction visit Elle.com.

Few things boil my blood like the disposable plastic water bottle. This thing stinks–literally! Go on, smell that oil-derived polyethylene.

There are many reasons to despise the disposable plastic water bottle. For one, it is straight up terrible for the environment, it’s over-priced and the water’s not even better than tap water–in many cases it simply is tap water. Ridiculous!

With all my water rage, I’ve come dangerously close to a postal outburst. Luckily, however, the fury hath been quelled. I’ve recently found a healthy and safe place to vent my environmental frustrations: yes, ABC’s Good Morning America Now.

Please enjoy the following clip of my first segment: “Bring Your Own Bottled Water,” with hunky host and soap-opera heart throb Cameron Mathison.

Disclaimer: some have accused us of flirting on camera. I say erroneous. I was simply smitten by Cameron’s enthusiasm for the subject and was even more excited when I duped him in a bottled water taste test challenge. Touché!
