Support Ethical Fashion in 2014: My Picks For eBay Green

StarreVirginiaJohnsonScarfBig

I’ve been having tons of fun putting together fun ethical fashion collections over at eBay: Check out the fruits of my hard work (searching deep into the site to find the most fun things)! Over the last few years I have almost completely stopped buying conventional new clothing, and now only buy clothes, accessories and shoes that are made locally, from sustainable materials, or are vintage/pre-loved. Sometimes the former (locally made, sustainable materials) stuff costs more, but I offset it by purchasing other things used. eBay is the perfect place to find sustainable gems, using their easy search tools (check the toolbars on the left side, which enable you to search by materials and used items).

A perfect example is my new scarf above (that’s me post snowstorm in the mountains of Oregon): The gorgeous Virginia Johnson peacock scarf (hand-printed by a woman’s co-op in India with low-impact dyes) above was originally $205, but I scored it on eBay for $80. I have had another one of her scarves for 5 years now, so I know it will wear well.

Below are a few of my favorite things from some of the most recent collections I’ve put together. If you like what you see, follow me on eBay

Graphic 80s sweater coat

Collection: A Great Graphic Statement

This graphic 80s mohair sweater-coat is just the thing to keep warm in for the rest of winter. I’m totally obsessed with the whacko print on this sweater and can imagine it paired with skinny jeans and boots, a black maxi skirt, shorts and tights and plenty more.

Collection: Low-impact Globetrotter Style

These sunglasses are made from recycled skateboards; I love that they give a striped style with real layers of wood (not just painted-on graphics).

sparkleboots

Collection: Be Your Own Superhero

These vintage David Bowie-style glam rock boots would make anyone want to kick some butt (and you’ll be able to walk in them too, since even though they have a chunky heel, they also have a serious platform, which will raise you up without tripping you up).

Collection: Punked and Plaid

This vintage hemp grain bag would make a great tote if you converted it (or you could make a very cool long pillow with it); and it comes with a mystery. Who IS GB?

Collection: Wearable Wooden Works of Art

This pick is one of the reasons why shopping on eBay is so incredible; these Louis Vuitton wooden earrings are more than jewelry, they are works of art, like tiny sculptures hanging from your ears.

SwedishHasbeens

Collection: Winter in Scandinavia

I love Swedish Hasbeens (and these ankle boots are especially perfect), they are made from naturally dyed leather, and are made sturdily enough so that they will last for many, many years if cared for. A worthwhile investment.

Collection: Noir Detective Style

This hemp and organic cotton trench is versatile enough so that whether you are tracking the bad guys or just heading to the day job (if you are really a detective, I suppose you are doing both!) it will work for you.

Collection: For the (Modern) Kid at Heart

This adorable owl pillow is the vintage original to the made-in-China copies you see floating around stores right now. The real thing is not only more fun, but well made enough that it has stood the test of time.

Come follow me on eBay; I’ll be updating my finds on a regular basis!
