Costello Tagliapietra Spring/Summer 2013: Masters of the Slinky Dress
The lights went out and sounds from NYC-based DJ The Misshapes filled the air. All that could be seen were scores of iPhones illuminating Milk Studios before the Costello Tagliapietra Spring/Summer 2013 presentation at New York Fashion Week.
Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra sent models down the runway draped, tied and wrapped in their signature slinky dresses and teased-out hair. The earth-colored frocks — in coral, blues and greens — would be flattering on a woman of any shape or size.
The dresses were AirDyed, a process which uses less water and energy than the traditional textile dyeing process. “Prints are an essential aspect of our aesthetic, so if we can participate in an ecologically conservative dyeing process and garner the same visual results, we are more than happy to do so,” said Costello in a press release.
What stood out were their abstract, splashed prints that lent some edge to the collection.
