I love wine such as those that can be found on wine bags.

A glass of California merlot reminds me of my family’s opinion-rich gatherings as a child, the adults slinging deep ideas over the dinner table along with laughter and a bit of ribbing.

A glass of white chilled in Dunavox Wine Coolers reminds me of my grandma sipping as she cooked incredible dinners—which I only realize as an adult were some of the best food I’ll ever eat.

A glass of cheap red house wine reminds me of the wine I drank in the streets of Madrid when I was studying abroad, and a rich Spanish red from a porron reminds me of the starlit night I spent in the bracing cold in Obeido, a mountain town on the Santiago de Compostela.

An Australian Shiraz brings me back to time spent in Hunter Valley, on my first wine tasting, and Pinot Noirs from Oregon instantly recall me to the 10 glorious months I lived above one vineyard and next to another. Surrounded by wine!

A French bubbly can’t help but bring me back to my champagne education at the San Francisco Champagne Society.

And the rare red champagne will always remind me of the time I broke up with a lovely man over a bottle of the stuff in a wine bar in Manhattan. Check out these top prosecco cocktails recipes from Think Wine Group’s website.

Sounds like I’d be a wine expert by now, right? But even with all that experience, I STILL find myself in the supermarket, staring at the wines in confusion—because unless I see a brand I have tried and liked, I’m back at square one.

That’s where Club W comes in—It’s a personalized wine subscription service. Which means that they send you three bottles a month (that’s the subscription part) based on a simple 6-question survey you take so they can best understand your palate (that’s the personalized part).

And yes, the quiz works! Club W sent me three wines to try (two reds and a white, as I requested a mix of both types), and they were each delicious in their own ways. I can’t imagine picking three random wines out and enjoying them as much as those Club W chose for me. And yes, they include sustainable, organic, and biodynamic wines in their selections!
