Seriously impressive commitment to #sustainablepackaging by @spell — ordered this cute #bralette on sale from #spellandthegypsycollective and not only is the bra made from 75% postconsumer, recycled plastic, but both its polybag and shipping bag are #compostable!! Both like in-your-backyard compostable (not just in an industrial compost facility, which are few and far between—def not one in my area). Or they will #biodegrade in a landfill. Help animals that survived the Australian #bushfires stay alive! “The New South Wales government commissioned the service titled ‘Operation Rock Wallaby’ which aims to feed the state’s colonies of brush-tailed rock wallabies and help the state’s population of marsupials survive. Matt keane, NSW environment minister, said ‘The wallabies typically survive the fire itself, but are then left stranded with limited natural food as the fire takes out the vegetation around their rocky habitat.’ In addition, Animals Australia has been hard at work using aircraft to transport food supplies for wildlife that are burnt and injured from the fires in Victoria. The charity has been using donations from the public to lease small planes, which they’ve filled with bags of grain and pellets to give out to wildlife in the region through ‘Vets for Compassion’. Animals Australia spokeswoman Lyn White said they’re trying to ensure the surviving wildlife doesn’t die from lack of food.” You can give at @animalsaustralia to help #wallabies and other animals stay fed until their ecosystem recovers. #australianbushfires #australia #wildfires #helpanimals
It’s #winter, which means skin needs a little extra #TLC. I’m a big fan if #facemasks, and while I often make my own (my very fave is the inside if a mango peel slathered all over the face, let dry, rinse off—a natural, gentle fruit acid peel!) I also adore @lushcosmetics fresh masks. They live in the refrigerator at the Lush stores—and that’s where you should keep them at home too, because the ingredients are THAT fresh. One way to keep your house cooler (and save energy & money & CO2) is by wearing #wool baselayers. My tank top is by @ramblerswayfarm and the leggings are @woolxwool — soft, stretchy, and you don’t even need to wash them; just pop them in the freezer overnight to kill all the bacteria that cause smells! Yes, for real. I do wash these in cold water every few weeks but mostly just use the cold freezer air! Of course these layers are also great for #winter #trailrunning and #hiking adventures too! From Eco-Chick’s editor: Back when I was a #fashion reporter in #nyc 😎This show was outdoors on the #les. I covered New York Fashion Week from an #ethical and #sustainablefashion lens from 2006-2015 and still get to attend shows if I’m in NY(and I covered Fashion weeks in London, LA and Vancouver at various times). I have even styled models for shows and ran one of my own a few years back. For those who have met me recently much of this might be a surprise! My interest in #fashion comes directly from my family (both sides) who are very clothes conscious in various ways; my grandma was an excellent seamstress and made most of my clothes growing up (she let me pick fabrics and patterns and LOTS of color has been a thing since I can remember). My father was in advertising and grew up in NYC (and is v tall and looks amaxing in everything) and my mother and her sister were alll about color and pattern and having fun w/clothes. I was ibsessed with #thriftstorefinds starting at age 16; I thought most of what people in my HS wore was boring and conformist and since I wasnt much liked for my atheism/vegetarianism/disinterest in football I thought fuck it, I’ll wear whatever I want! Cue me in 50s gowns + oversized cardigans + docs (would wear again!!). As an ardent environmentalist from a young age, as soon as I learned about waste in the #fashionindustry I started working to change that by championing #sustainabledesign & designers who used ethical materials. I still LOVE fashion & design; I often fall asleep putting together outfits in my mind; the weirder the better!! #fashionshow #nyfw #ethicalfashion #fashiondesign
