Ethical Obsession: Wooden Ties for Guys and Gals

I just can’t stop thinking about all the ways I would wear this Wood Thumb tie! Paired with a perfectly-fitting white button-down shirt and organic denims with some funky heels is the obvious way to go (but however simple of an ensemble, it would still be pretty humorous). But even a collarless shirt could be a fun accompaniment to this tie – a t-shirt or even a tank with the neck cord showing (which is how it fastens around the neck) – why not?

Of course once the weather cools, I can see rocking it with a ruffle-front shirt and a snug vest, or even over a Little Black Dress along with long gold chains so you get the juxtaposition between the gold and the wood, which is always a pretty combo.

Made by brothers David and Christopher Steinrueck from reclaimed wood by hand in San Francisco, each tie is an original piece, which may even have nail holes and rust spots from its previous life. And contrary to what you might think, the ties are pretty lightweight. Where does the wood come from?

The brothers were inspired by wood waste. “When a barn or house is torn down in California, much of the beautiful old growth redwood used to build these structures is thrown away. Wood Thumb partners with Recology SF to reclaim and repurpose this wood into the wood tie.”
