Summer is without doubt my favorite season. I’m always looking for easy cool dresses to wear as I run around in the heat and humidity of NYC, or spend time chasing my friend’s kids. There’s nothing like the hustle and bustle of home to make me yearn for a crisp white summer dress, or the peachy pink of an adorable sheath. And the perfect black dress is always in style in Manhattan!
I first heard of Covet several weeks ago, and quickly fell in love with their Spring/Summer 2011 collection which define my breezy on-the-move fashion sense! Covet began in 2004 and, “is renowned for achieving fusion and balance between true fashion and an awareness of the world in which we live”. Covet accomplishes this via the use of organic and sustainable materials while keeping track of trends around the world.
Amanda, Covet’s Creative Director, told me a little bit about her philosophy and the brilliant line.
What is one of you favorite pieces from the Spring 2011 collection?
The Cotton linen v-neck dress . This dress has a 50s feel, and is perfect for picnics and riding bike and shopping at the farmers market! My favorite summer activities!
I’m very inspired by people watching. I like to see how others are dressing on the street and on so many style blogs. i of course follow closely what happens on the catwalks around the world. I travel twice a year to stockholm. I like the swedish aesthetic and find it rather soothing, when I find myself feeling overwhelmed by all the fast fashions trends happening at one time.
When it comes to the sustainable fashion world, where do you see success? Where do you see failure?
There has been a substantial growth in this area of the fashion world in a very short time. It’s great that more and more consumers are understanding the importance of sustainability, not just in fashion. Cost is still sometimes an obstacle though, and in a tough economy, some people may feel it is difficult to spend more on something because it is organic or sustainable.
What are one or two elements you try to incorporate into each collection?
Covet’s color palette never changes much from season to season. Very earthy and neutral. I always try to incorporate loose fits, with the interesting shapes that Covet has become known for.
