VOZ: Handmade Fair Fashion for the New Modern Look
Sometimes, runway shows can change your perception of a line of clothing. VOZ (which means voice) is a prime example; the level of detail on many of the pieces is hard to comprehend until you see them in person. I attended the VOZ runway show at New York Fashion Week, held at Milk studios, and I got a chance to see the simple, modern designs from this empathetic, woman-focused (in both production and customer) line first-hand.
VOZ’s motto? “Providing beauty and hope through the threads we touch.” If that’s not beautiful enough, check out the line’s manifesto:
VOZ empowers indigenous artisans and their art forms through collaborative fashion design. VOZ’s hand made garments feature premium quality natural and ecological fibers, hand dyed and woven to celebrate ancient traditions; it is where luxury meets social change. VOZ international designers work intimately with artisans in Mapuche communities in southern Chile, to envision, prototype and finalize the fair trade fashion collections. In turn, these artisans receive name credit and earn royalties for their designs featured in the collection.
The VOZ handmade aesthetic is both obvious in the detailing on many pieces, and simultaneously seamlessly integrated into the quite modern-classic pieces (which all look incredibly comfortable to boot; no suffering for fashion here!).
