Eco-Chick’s 10th Birthday Wellness Party at Coco-Mat with Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics
Eco-Chick’s managing editor Lindsay Brown, and EIC and founder Starre Vartan.
Eco-Chick was founded by our editor-in-chief, Starre Vartan, back in October 2005 to inspire readers toward a healthy, more sustainable life. We’re proudly the Internet’s first site covering these important issues – ethical fashion, beauty, travel and home – specifically as they relate to women. Over the past 10 years, we’ve continuously published content to help women make better, more informed decisions.
Our tagline says it all: Because Mother Earth is a Woman.
The site’s companion book, The Eco Chick Guide to Life: How to Be Fabulously Green, was positively reviewed by The New York Times and we’ve been fortunate through the years to have been featured in pubs like Glamour, Elle.com, New York Times (thrice), Self Magazine, Marie Claire, Whole Living, USA Today, Huff Po, and many others.
So we had to celebrate our 10th Birthday!!!
Left to Right: Kate McGregor, proprietor of Kaight Boutique; Meiling Chen, fashion designer and artist; Eileen Moran, founder, Architects of Experience; Starre Vartan, EIC & Founder, Eco-Chick.com; Summer Rayne Oakes, model, writer & environmental activist; Lindsay Brown, managing editor, Eco-Chick.com; Krystina Puleo, US Public Relations, Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics; and Pamela Peeters, environmental economist and producer of the Sustainable Planet film festival & Sustainable Styles magazine.
To honor and thank our media friends, supporters, and brands we’ve worked with through the years, we hosted a birthday party on February 4th at Coco-Mat in SoHo. Coco-Mat, which is a global natural mattress and bedding company now in 14 countries, was an ideal venue as their SoHo store is stunningly beautiful and because they believe that blissful, safe sleep is essential to total wellness.
Leanne Mai-Ly Hilgart, founder and designer, Vaute Couture.
We were fortunate enough to have Coco-Mat’s founders, brothers Paul and Mike Efmorfidis, (in attendance from Greece!) to help us celebrate in true Greek style.
Nourish + Nosh founder and chef, Laura Ferro, and her husband Mike who played sous chef for the evening!
Thank you to the entire Coco-Mat team for being wonderfully accommodating, fun and supportive. (You were truly amazing!!! Shout out to Alisha Hylton for her incredible energy.)
Guests enjoyed luxury massages and treatments from Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics in the “Lush Spa” at our event. Lush doesn’t just make the most delicious beauty and bath products out there, but they value people, animals and planet just like Eco-Chick.
Perhaps more importantly, they’re a campaigning company: They use their energy and resources to take a stance on critical environmental, and human and animal rights causes (something which most companies shy away from). We LOVE that!
Eco-Chick guests sipped on Natura Organic Wines and enjoyed mini wine seminars throughout the evening on organic, biodynamic and sustainable wine making.
Oregon-based Vivacity Fine Spirts offered guests a delicious selection of curated cocktails throughout the evening.
Vivacity is 1 of only 5 woman-owned distilleries in the nation and we’re grateful to founder Caitlin for sharing her knowledge and talent with us.
Prancing Leopard Organics showcased its range of ethical yogawear in its pop-up shop and yoga studio. Attendees were treated to mini yoga instruction throughout the evening by yogini Anna Farkas on Yoga Design Lab yoga mats. Eco-Chick friends can enjoy a 20% discount at Prancing Leopard using: EcoChick20.
Private chef and health consultant at Nourish + Nosh, Laura Ferro (that’s her husband Mike showing off her work, above!), whipped up delicious, organic and local bites. (Her vegan chocolate chip cookies were a crowd fave!).
Guests followed their gut and sipped Health-Ade’s organic kombucha in a variety of flavors. Our sponsors served up everything on Susty Party’s chic, compostable tableware.
