Two More Mountaineers Lost?
As I prep a January climb of Mt. Whitney, I’m hoping that 2007 will be a less deadly year in the mountains than 2006. Just a few days after the search for three Mt. Hood climbers was called off, I heard today that the mountaineering community is raising money to search for two American climbers last seen in China. As of today, Christine Boskoff (owner of Mountain Madness, the company that led one of the fated 1996 expeditions of Everest) and Charlie Fowler are 18 days overdue from a two month trek through the unclimbed peaks of China. More information (including how to support the fundraising effort) is available at Mountain Madness, and Mountain Film.
