Eco Chick Eats! Billyburg Brooklyn's Saturday Food Crawl

All week I had been planing a trip to visit the Williamsburg (BKLN) flea market. I counted on spending the afternoon scavenging for goodies to bring home and some to give away, but unbeknownst to me I arrived to find in place of handmade boxes, seventies dresses, and rows and rows of food!

Starting last week was Smorgasburg! Named so because of its location, this food flea market takes place Saturdays with 100+ food vendors catering local foods as well as bona fide GrownNYC Green Market.

In short, after months and months of searching for a food crawl…one had quiet literally fallen directly into my path. I was ready to eat and eat I did! Located in the same place as the Sunday flea, its right on the water making it a beautiful place to sit and chow down with the city as your backdrop.

Food is one of the most difficult things to describe to a reader, but when done well it makes your taste buds water. The decadent delights of food, while difficult to convey, are numerous, so here I determine to share my version of actually eating food (taboo?!):

I swallowed. First touch the ice cream melted between my newly white teeth (what I relief to lose the metal-just got my braces off!). It was like all the joys of life molded into one flavor – mint chocolate chip. Oh! I was in some degree of food heaven, where summer aways shined, and the joyous laughter of children surrounded each step I took.

Next, my tongue relished the bites of a lobster roll. Lobster, then bun, and a combination of flavor fresh from the sea. It was almost like biting into the ocean herself. It seems so sensual, so complex, to be concentrating so hard on a task we often take for granted, always on the run, always working. I bit down further. Delicious.

Lastly, lemonade to clear the palate. Though there was a flavor of hibiscus and the sheer delight of iced lemonade on a hot humid almost summer day made the actual sips all the better.

My food crawl was a complete success and I can’t wait until I visit again.
