Super Colorful Brazen Cosmetics: Green Beauty for Drag Queens & Makeup Fiends

Brazen Cosmetics Main

If there’s one overarching complaint I have about ‘natural’ cosmetics in the green beauty sphere, it’s the disappointing color range offered by most brands. Those of us who love bold looks often feel like we have to choose between highly pigmented eye shadow and lipstick, and our health. Loving dramatic makeup shouldn’t mean we’re forced to buy from companies that test on animals and put harmful substances in their products. That’s why I’m pretty psyched about Brazen Cosmetics, an indie beauty brand offering ‘bold and provocative organic makeup.’

Brazen sells mineral makeup, liquid lipstick, concealer, bronzer, primers and a number of other products in vegan formulas packed with botanical extracts like green tea, chamomile, castor seed oil, jojoba and Argan oil. The colors are custom-mixed by Brazen’s founder, who has been making cosmetics for the past 15 years.

The company sent me a series of samples to test out (with no obligation for a review) including a deep purple eyeshadow and two liquid lipsticks, Aphrodite and Starlet (left and center, above). Aphrodite is a rich, dark lush merlot with red/gold shimmer that lends a metallic effect. Subtle it isn’t, and I mean that in the best way. It has a really soft feel on the lips, and comes in a dial-up pen with a brush tip. I found that it lasted quite a while, requiring reapplication only after a meal.

Want to try them yourself? Brazen offers free samples to the public. Get details on their website, BrazenCosmetics.com.
