How I Wear Eco Fashion: Left Coast Blogger Tracy Hepler

Tracy Hepler is the LA-based founder of Your Daily Thread, an online magazine and free daily email that “helps you live green and do good,” and is coming to NYC soon. Most days involve her hustling the streets of L.A. and the internet looking for her latest story inspiration, according to Tracy. But fashion came later in life to this go-getting young blogger.

“Growing up as a tomboy, I never really got the whole “fashion” thing,” says Tracy. “I always tried to look cute, but comfort was more of a priority than style. That was until about a year ago. I’m not sure if it was entering my late twenties or finally embracing my feminine side, but I realized that I really wanted to be fashionable. Not in a trite, Gossip Girl sense, but in a way that allowed me to express my personality. I had also recently inherited a decent amount of second hand clothing gems from my mom, grandma and some girlfriends (who had organized a clothing swap).”

Tracy is wearing Nieman Marcus silk vintage blouse from the 80’s that belonged to her mom, and Paige denim jeans, which are locally made in L.A. “I got them second hand from a clothing swap with friends,” says Tracy. Kayu Bamboo Sunglasses are not only made of sustainable materials, but each purchase supports a restorative eye sight surgery in the developing world. Her watch is a Sprout Eco-Friendly Timepiece (the body is made from bio-corn). On her feet? Sanuk Slip On Shoes (second hand from clothing swap with friends), and she wears makeup from Tarte and Josie Maran Cosmetics.

“When I want something “new” to me, I love sifting through the vintage shops on Melrose,” says Tracy. “If I want something really sassy, I head to Shareen Vintage in downtown L.A. I like that the pieces have a story before they come to me. ”

When she does buy new, Tracy tries to support eco-designers like Stewart & Brown, Loyale, The Battalion, Green Bees and others.
