"Leharia" by Carrie Parry: Easy-to-Wear Eco Fashion for Fall/Winter 2012
Eco fashion designer Carrie Parry’s eponymous line has always been about practical, fashionable clothing for women of the world. And we aren’t the only ones recognizing the line’s style and sustainability; first Carrie Parry won the Green Fashion Competition at Amsterdam fashion week, and now her online store is filled with the perfect for work or play separates she is known for. And for more fashionable clothing for women, you can visit a good shop like We Are Roar for more options to choose from!
The collection, dubbed “Leharia” (that word conjures up something future-exotic, no?), “draws from the geometric lines and shapes of Bauhaus design. Channeling polished whimsy, it juxtaposes strong modernist silhouettes with saturated colors and vivid prints inspired by the Hindu festival of colors.”
And Carrie cuts no corners in her production, making a super-ethical line in more ways than one. Besides producing all her clothing in NYC’s garment district, as well as helping to employ hundreds of women in the Himalayas India to weave the collection’s artisan wool and silks, check out the bona fides of the textiles used in her collections:
Nearly all our artisanal fabrics are handspun and handwoven producing zero carbon emissions, and dyed using azo free dyes. Our jersey is a recycled polyester jersey knitted in California. Our 100% organic cotton is Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified, produced in India and dyed using low-impact dyes. Our Tencel is a biodegradable fabric made from wood pulp cellulose, and is dyed with azo free dyes. Our organic wool interlock is a classic wool doubleknit redefined using 100% certified organic fine merino. The wool is sourced in New York, with the fiber spun at a certified organic factory in Maine, dyed in Pennsylvania using low-impact dyes, and knitted in New Jersey. Our lining is Bemberg Cupro, a pure cellulosic fiber reborn from the linter of the cotton plant, and is fully biodegradable and a natural renewable resource.
Sleeveless blouses, blazers, pencil skirts, printed pants and more are available right now in the Carrie Parry online shop.
