The Yoxi "Trim the Waste of Fashion" Competition: Vote Now!
I love this new competition by Yoxi, a cool nonprofit that aims to find the “next social media rockstars” – their latest topic to tackle takes a look at the fashion industry.
There are some really great competitors, and in Round 2 (which you can vote on until August 24th) they explain all about how they are going to reduce waste in the fashion industry. I’ve voted! The videos are so interesting and also quite FUN! Check them out here (there are six to choose from). And check out the awesome judges, including model and ecoista Angela Lindvall, Scott Mackinlay Hahn and Rogan Gregory of Loomstate (one of Eco Chick’s fave eco fashion brands) and Geren Ford.
I helped Yoxi out a bit with my expertise prior to the competition’s start and they were kind enough to feature me on the page for Trim the Waste of Fashion:
From the Trim the Waste of Fashion site:
In the nearly $1 trillion clothing industry, waste abounds from the estimated 15-20% of fabric trashed on the cutting room floor, unsustainable material sourcing, massive carbon emissions when transporting products from manufacturing centers, gallons upon gallons of wasted and polluted water during washing and dyeing, as well as wildly excessive packaging, tagging, and storage. Fashion choices matter to everybody, not just models, magazine and style mavens.
