3 Incredible Videos That Prove Mannequins Matter When It Comes to Body Image
Mannequins are weird things, if you think about it. If you DO ponder them for a moment, you’re likely left with the feeling that there is something slightly (or very) creepy about what they are; the background, a human-shaped hanger for clothing. They are supposed to give form without personality, project physical perfection without your really noticing them at all. And their faces are always blanks (I find the old-school mannequins with painted faces less weird, though I know many, many people will disagree with me).
But like many givens in our society, mannequins are being paid attention to, both for what they advertise overtly (your body should look like this) and subconsciously (it would be easier for capitalism if we all looked the same).
