Florida’s New “Destiny”

SkyIn what is the most significant Real Estate Deal in Flordia since Walt Disney’s purchase of land for what is now Disney World, developer Anthony V. Pugliese III paid the Latt Maxcy Corporation $140 million for 27,400-acres of land in Florida. Is he to build another theme park? No. He is converting the practically vacant land into Florida’s first eco city named “Destiny”, along with his partner, Subway founder Fred DeLuca.

This incredible development plan is still in need of government approval and even if it is hopefully approved, the project would take about 25 years to complete. The sustainable vision includes a biotechnology hub, 40 miles of navigable lakes, a sustainable energy source, organic restaurants, and 150,000 new residents. There would be so many possibilities for this blank canvas of land which is larger than Miami.

There is a growing real estate trend of not only green buildings, but the conceptualization of eco-cities. Maybe our generation as well will retire to Florida in our eco-elderly communities. Let us hope we can preserve and heal the land till then and beyond. It is an exciting initiative.
