Suzanne Rae at New York Fashion Week F/W 2013: Minimalist, Humble, Cool
The Suzanne Rae NYFW show at the Philippine Center last night was all about quiet minimalism. According to the handout for the show, “Suzanne turned towards the kind of service industry that involves giving aid to those in need; to serve the greater good that is humanity. What she discovered is the beautiful, intricately designed and yet modest clothing of the missionary monks, priests, and nuns. Inspired by the silhouettes and linear geometry of their robes, Suzanne has designed a collection free from extravagance, minimalist in aesthetic, and humble by nature.”
The designer, Suzanne Rae Palaez, uses a mix of sustainable and conventional materials, and 100% of her production takes place in NYC’s garment district. As Palaez says, “Without the garment district, local emerging designers, and even established designers who started out in New York, would not have been able to realize their designs and contribute to the American fashion industry.”
For Fall/Winter 2013, Palaez collaborated with NYC-based knitwear designer Lindsay Degen, which is a zero-waste knitwear collection (see the sweater, skirt, hat and scarf featured in the slideshow below.)
