Healthy Tips for Removing Stains from Organic Cotton Sheets
We love to sleep in a supercozy natural bed. Quality sheets are one of the best bedding investments you can make—but accidents happen, and if a stain of some kind gets on the sheet it can be detrimental. Luckily, there are many possible solutions for stain removal without chemical additives.
Act Fast
Keep in mind that it’s easier to get a stain out if you start soon after it happens. You can either clean it yourself or call on services like dobi layan diri. Older stains are much harder to remove than new stains, and if you start soon after the accident happens you’ll have a much easier time removing the mark it left.
Get Grease Out
One possible solution is to spray the stain down with a mixture of water and distilled white vinegar before you begin. This will work particularly well on oily stains, such as those caused by sweat. Then soak the sheets in hot water and wash with quality detergent such as the plant derived laundry detergent from Caldrea. I am obsessed with Rosewater Driftwood.
Battle Blood
Blood stains happen and when they do, a simple all-natural soap and water mix will do the trick—flush cool water through the stain, scrub gently with soap, and repeat. I recommend Dr. Bronner’s. You might have to do this several times in order to fully remove the stain. Be sure that you do not run a sheet stained with blood through a hot wash cycle or put in in the dryer until you’ve removed the stain. The heat can cause the stain to set and become permanent.
Caldrea Sweet Pea Stain Remover is another alternative as it is highly effective against all types of organic stains. Simply apply product to stain and allow to rest for 3-10 minutes.
Whiten Naturally
Hydrogen peroxide can be used as a safe, pre-treater for stains and works just as well as bleach. EWG gave Clorox Bleach an F due to it’s toxic ingredients.
Just soak the stain for a little while in hydrogen peroxide before tossing into the laundry. You can also add a 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide to a regular load of whites to boost brightness.
Buy Smart
Organic cotton sheets are less likely to stain or change color, ensuring that your bedding will feel clean and look great.
