This Butterfly Tank Helps Abused Young Women, and So Do All El Cambio’s Clothes. How?
El Cambio Trading Company sent me one of their adorable tanks to try out, and it was love at first sight. Walking through the streets of Burlingame, California, I felt as free as the beautiful butterfly featured in this design. (I also had a lot of fun goofing off while I made my sister take pictures of me.)
Long story short, El Cambio is everything you want in a clothing company. Organic, fair-trade, and sustainable, you can buy their clothes guilt-free. Beyond the ethical aspects that make El Cambio great, this tank is SO comfy. It feels like you’re wearing nothing, it’s so lightweight and soft.
But even better, three dollars from every tank goes to a good cause.
What cause is that, you may ask? The choice is yours! El Cambio’s different shirts feature multiple designs, and each design’s proceeds go to a different charity. What I love about their system is that these non-profits are small and benefit very specific causes. That means they’re unlikely to become corrupt, or to have donations get lost in bureaucratic nonsense. And small nonprofits are always struggling to raise funds. My shirt, the butterfly tank, benefits the Guria Foundation.
Guria is a non-profit organisation that has been fighting the sexual exploitation of women and girls, with special focus on forced prostitution and sex trafficking. The Butterfly represents those saved by Guria as being able to bloom into full-forced, free human beings. The design on the outside of the wings represents shiva and varanasi; where the company is based. The OM signifies calmness and the anchor stability, two characteristics Guria enables these troubled human beings.
I love how well-thought-out each design is. Though they each look simple at first glance, all the elements of these images represent something literal or spiritual that can tell you about the cause.
