Some mornings are better than others, right? And sometimes you just don’t want a cup of coffee or tea—you’re hungry, but you need a boost too. This past Monday was one of those days for me. I made the following smoothie with amazon green powder and it kept me going all morning and past lunch—I was really zooming. I use my ninja blender almost everyday. This is how to start a ninja blender the right way.  Packed with nutrition, healthy fats, and plenty of energizing greens, cacao and maca (superfoods that will keep you going sans caffeine crash; they let you down gently), it was tasty too.

Note: The energy-promoting aspects of this smoothie are strong enough that for me, an additional coffee, tea, or other caffeinated beverage would be too much, so be careful not to over-stimulate! Give the smoothie 30-40 minutes to feel the effects. Those who have a negative reaction to stimulants should avoid maca and raw cacao.

In a blender, combine:

1 tablespoon raw maca power

2 tablespoons raw cacao powder

1 organic banana

1/2 a peach, a whole plum, 1/2 cup blueberries or strawberries

handful greens (I used a mache mix, but spinach, baby kale or even salad mix could work; avoid arugula)

1 1/2 cups water

2 generous tablespoons honey or agave nectar

1/2 cup alt milk (almond, hemp, soy, etc.)

1 tablespoon almond butter

Blend well for a couple of minutes, and enjoy!
